History of origin

In 1897, the Hennef manufacturer Carl Reuther , co-owner of the scale construction company "C. Reuther & Reisert ”, the Geistingen community a piece of land and financial means to set up a training school. Two years later, the school building in Carl-Reuther-Strasse was completed and the school opened towards the end of 1899 under the name of the “Commercial Advanced Training School of the Carl Reuther Foundation”.

The scheduled teaching operations were secured at the beginning of 1900. Lessons begin in 2 classes with 60 students, mostly apprentices from the metal industry. In July 1905 a local statute was passed from the voluntary advanced training school to the compulsory commercial advanced training school. As a result of a revision of the school by the royal Prussian government, the board of trustees appointed the main teacher Josef Schmitz as the first responsible head of the school in the following year.

Naming

On August 17, 2009, the then headmaster Konrad Richter opened a permanent exhibition in the school on the occasion of the school founder's 175th birthday, which presented the life and work of the Hennef manufacturer and his famous Chronos scales.
