Carl August Alsleben

Carl August Alsleben (born October 5, 1770 in Magdeburg ; † February 6, 1855 in Berlin ) was an appellate judge in Prussia . For his efforts in social institutions he was granted honorary citizenship of Berlin in 1845 .

Life

He was born as the son of Magdeburg's mayor Johann Gottfried Alsleben (* 1735 in Halberstadt) and grew up there. After successfully completing the grammar school ( Our Dear Women ), Alsleben studied law in Halle / Saale from 1788 . He then entered the Prussian civil service and was initially employed as a trainee lawyer at the Magdeburg City Court. This was followed by a traineeship with the government of the province of Saxony. He was appointed assessor promoted and 1794 as Councilor for Kuestrin added. After the Napoleonic Wars, he played a key role in the reinstatement of the Prussian judicial authorities in Cottbus . For his services, Alsleben was appointed to the Privy Councilor on May 27, 1815 . In 1816 he was appointed Vice-President of the Halberstadt Higher Regional Court and on April 8, 1822, he was appointed Chief President of the Köslin Higher Regional Court . For his previous work he was awarded the Prussian Red Eagle Order III by the Prussian King in this capacity . Awarded class with oak leaves . For health reasons, Alsleben asked to be released from civil service in 1835.

After his request was granted, he left Köslin and lived in the summer months in Charlottenburg , which was not yet part of Berlin , while he spent the winter in Berlin. Despite his retirement, Alsleben became a member of several charitable associations and also participated in the founding and promotion of so-called child custody institutions . He called several foundations (Alsleben Foundation) and legacies (Alsleben Legacy) into being. The interest on the Alsleben legacy was to be used for rent payments and to provide poor families with potatoes in winter.

On March 23, 1806, he married the daughter of the Küstriner president, Wilhelmine von Scheibler. Due to his social commitment, Carl August Alsleben was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Berlin by the Berlin magistrate on June 12, 1845 . He died in Berlin in 1855 at the age of 85.
