Carl Eugen Franz Xaver Beck (born January 19, 1894 in Sursee ; † April 22, 1982 there ; Catholic , entitled to reside in Sursee) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and farmer .

Life

Carl Beck was born on January 19, 1894 in Sursee, the son of the doctor and President of the Medical Council of the Canton of Lucerne Karl Franz Josef Beck and Marie-born Curti. He attended secondary school in Sursee, the St. Michael College in Freiburg and then from 1909 to 1912 the agricultural school in Hauterive-Grangeneuve . From 1917 Beck ran a farm on the Beckenhof in Sursee. He also worked as the farmer 's editor between 1938 and 1959 . In addition, Carl Beck was a member of the board of the Swiss Farmers' Union from 1937 to 1970 . He also acted as Vice President from 1945 to 1955, and then as President of the Central Switzerland Milk Association until 1970 . He was also represented on the board of the Swiss Broadcasting Society from 1947 . Beck also made a name for himself as a local historian. Carl Beck, who was married to Maria Wyss, died on April 22, 1982 at the age of 88 in Sursee. He was a grandson of the politician Franz Xaver Beck .

Carl Beck weapons collection

Beck had an important collecting activity in the course of his life. This consisted on the one hand of a collection of historical Lucerne house rifles and a collection of cutting and stabbing weapons of all kinds. He bequeathed the collections, which are of significant value, to his hometown Sursee . Exhibits from the collection are on display in the Museum Sankturbanhof Sursee . Carl Beck, a member of the CVP, served as president of the Corporationsgemeinde Sursee from 1931 to 1971 . He also had a seat in the National Council from 1943 to 1959 . Beck was considered an expert on agricultural issues and, above all, on the consolidation of goods in the canton of Lucerne.
