Carl Beyer (archivist)

Carl Beyer (born January 26, 1848 in Koblenz , † July 17, 1900 in Erfurt ) was a German archivist and historian .

Life

Beyer was the son of the Koblenz archivist Heinrich Beyer , who later entered the service of the Counts of Stolberg-Stolberg and Stolberg-Roßla as archivist . After attending grammar school in his hometown, he began an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Torgau in 1863 , which he continued in the Roman pharmacy in Erfurt in 1868 and successfully completed in 1872. In 1871, Karl Beyer began studying pharmacy at the University of Halle-Wittenberg .

Due to his increasing interest in history, he passed his matriculation examination in Merseburg and continued his studies in Halle. He embarked on a career as archivist, wrote his dissertation on elections for bishops and abbots in Germany in 1881 and passed the state examination in 1882. After that he got a job at the high school in Erfurt and as first city archivist. In 1886 he became secretary in the Erfurt History Association and in the following years presented several scientific publications on the history of Erfurt.
