Carl Düvel

Carl Düvel (born March 31, 1914 in Holzminden ; † March 7, 1998 in Westerstede ) was the penultimate president of the Braunschweigische Staatsbank . He is considered to be the spiritual father of the merger of the State Bank with three other public-law credit institutions based in Hanover , which led to the founding of the Norddeutsche Landesbank (NORD / LB) in mid-1970 . According to the magazine Die Zeit , he was designated chairman of the board of the new institute, but resigned from his office as president of the state bank in 1969 because of differences with the savings bank organization. The President of the Lower Saxony administrative district of Braunschweig, Willi Thiele, became the last President of the State Bank on an interim basis .

According to press reports, Düvel, whose contract ran until the end of 1969, had been a board member of Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG since the summer of this year . This fact was particularly explosive because the insurance company was supposed to buy half of its shares in the Rollei company from the state bank , so a conflict of interest at Düvel was obvious.

Life

Little is known about Düvel's life. He was a doctor of law and 1944 to 1945 District Administrator of the district Uelzen . From 1968 to 1970 he was chairman of the Braunschweigischer Geschichtsverein .

After his death, the civil law Carl and Lieselotte Düvel Foundation was established in Westerstede in 2001 . The couple's son, Carl-Wilhelm Düvel, is a board member.
