Carl Drews

Carl Drews (born January 27, 1894 in Berlin ; † September 3, 1983 there ) was a German cameraman .

Life

Drews began his professional activity at the age of 14 as a laboratory assistant at the Internationale Kinematographen- und Lichteffekt-GmbH. Here he became assistant to the cameraman Franz Mletzko when he was taking pictures of "current events" in the Berlin area, including the accident at Gleisdreieck in September 1908.

Between 1914 and 1918, Drews served in the First World War. In 1920 he received his first assignment as head cameraman for a feature film. After that he was behind the camera in numerous productions in various film genres.

Mostly he turned harmless romantic comedies, rare dramas and historical films . His last work was the propaganda film Request Concert . In 1941 he took a job at the Reichsanstalt für Film und Bild in science and teaching . Since then he has only made documentaries and continued this activity after the war.
