Carl Ibell

Carl Wilhelm Christian Ibell (born October 15, 1744 in Idstein ; † July 31, 1826 ) was the Nassau bailiff of the Wehen office towards the end of the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Carl Ibell was the son of the Idstein rent master Johann Andreas Ibell (born October 29, 1703 in Zweibrücken , † July 10, 1782) and his wife Maria Dorothea Friederike, born. Müller. He had four sisters and one brother, Friedrich Ibell, who became a captain in the Prussian army. His sister Charlotte Sophie Christiane (* June 12, 1738; † January 10, 1800) married the pastor Jakob Ludwig Schellenberg, then rector in Idstein later in Bierstadt.

Carl Ibell attended high school in Idstein and studied in Goettingen law . After studying and passing the state examination, he worked as a lawyer at the Reich Chamber of Commerce and was appointed cabinet secretary by Prince Karl von Nassau-Usingen . At his own request, he was appointed bailiff of the Wehen office in 1772, where he remained in office until 1814.

Ibell led Duchy of Nassau , the three-field system , the potato - and clover cultivation as well as the sheep and promoted the orchard cultivation .

In order to reduce child mortality , Ibell had numerous improvements made to personal hygiene , including differentiating between water points for humans and animals and training midwives .

On November 4, 1773 he married Christiane Dorothea Franzisca Schmidt, daughter of the theologian Carl Ludwig Schmidt (1719–1756). His only son, Carl Friedrich Emil von Ibell , carried out numerous liberal reforms from 1808 onwards as President of the Duchy of Nassau-Usingen . He also had three daughters:

  • Friederike Henriette Dorothea Franziska (* October 7, 1774; † January 29, 1848) ⚭ October 5, 1792 with Friedrich Jakob Koch (1769–1829), pastor in Fürfeld, church councilor and dean in Idstein
  • Louise (1776–1857) ⚭ 1802 Gottfried Martin Willett (1765–1830), Treasury Director
  • Marie Caroline Wilhelmine Dorothea (born February 13, 1778; † March 22, 1857) ⚭ May 9, 1805 with Georg Ludwig Forst (born March 4, 1771; † December 7, 1857), Counselor in Wiesbaden
  • Carl Friedrich Emil von Ibell (1780–1834), District President of the Duchy of Nassau .

His son-in-law Georg Forst was his successor as bailiff in labor.
