Carl Kesselhuth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Kesselhuth was an entrepreneur and photographer in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Life

youth

Carl Kesselhuth learned his photographic trade in Osnabrück in the early 1860s from the court photographer Georg Heyer . "It is probably for Heyer to those traveling photographers , in 1857, from Einbeck coming, the paper image photography had introduced in Hildesheim."

After Kesselhut worked for Heyer for a few years as an assistant, he switched to Mr. St. Eyre in Einbeck , who ran both a photo studio and a “drug trade” there. Carl Kesselhuth served himself up to managing director in a short time . At the age of 22 he bought the business of the Wedemeyer's heirs and went into business for himself on July 1, 1865 in Hildesheim. He maintained his studio at Almsstrasse 31, later at Kaiserstrasse 44 / corner of Osterstrasse .

From 1894 to 1909 Kesselhuth was a board member of the German Photographers Association .

In 1902 Carl Kesselhuth was one of the co-founders of the oldest photographers ' guild in Germany, the "Photographers Guild of Hildesheim", today the Hanover-Hildesheim-Göttingen Photographers' Guild .

Unlike many of his colleagues, Kesselhuth did not see the amateur photography that was emerging around 1900 as an annoying competition, but invested early in the expected business with private photography enthusiasts: in 1902 , he advertised for the first time in an advertisement in the Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung as “Handlungphotischer Apperate und Commodities ”and offered potential customers“ professional instruction ”. In the same issue there was another advertisement:

“Amateur Photographers! For the purpose of founding an association for the promotion of amateur photography, we ask all amateur photographers interested in this on Saturday, the 24th of d. Mts. Meet at 9 o'clock in the evening in the Union's club room (Brühl). Several amateur photographers. "
