Carl Renz (born June 3, 1876 in Durlach , † February 16, 1951 in Athens ) was a Swiss geologist and paleontologist . He was a professor at the University of Wroclaw .

Renz studied natural sciences in Breslau , Munich , Paris and Zurich and received his doctorate in 1902 (contributions to knowledge of indium and gallium ). In Breslau he was a student of Fritz Frech . In 1909 he became a professor in Breslau, after completing his habilitation there in the same year (on the geology of Greece). Renz is known for work on the geology of Greece.

In addition to Greece and the eastern Mediterranean and Switzerland (1914–1924, Lias des Ticino ), Renz was on research trips to Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan , Dagestan and Portugal.

In 1948 Renz examined water supply projects for the Greek government and was most recently involved in the geological survey. Renz put on extensive fossil collections from Greece and published a. a. about ammonites and brachiopods from Greece.

In August 1912, Renz was one of the 34 founding members of the Paleontological Society . The University of Athens awarded Renz an honorary doctorate and Georg II the Phoenix Order .

His son Otto Renz (1906–1992) was also a geologist.
