Carl Söderlund (born June 3, 1997 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish tennis player .

Career

Söderlund started playing tennis at the age of six. In 2014, at the age of 17, he played his first professional match when he received a wildcard for qualification at the Swedish Open in Båstad . There he clearly lost 2: 6, 0: 6 against Juan Lizariturry . A year later he achieved a minor success at a tournament on the ITF Future Tour in Helsinki when he reached the semi-finals and thus received points for the world rankings for the first time . In November of the same year he won the Future tournament in Oslo, which earned him more points, so that he finished the year in 790th place.

The year 2016 started with some early defeats for Söderlund before he won his second Future title in Sweden in May without losing a set. Two months later he played for the first time in the main draw of a tournament of the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour and - starting with a wildcard - immediately reached the semifinals in Båstad , where he defeated Daniel Gimeno Traver and Thomas Fabbiano and finally failed to Roberto Carballé's Baena . Because of this performance he received a wild card for the tournament in Båstad, which started a week later . At his premiere on the ATP World Tour , he competed there in the opening round against his compatriot and another wildcard starter Fred Simonsson , against whom he won 6: 3, 3: 6, 7: 6 (7: 5). However , he could hardly stand up to Portuguese João Sousa in the round of 16 and lost 3: 6, 1: 6. Through these successes Söderlund rose in the world rankings to place 418; its highest position to date.

He is trained by the former top 10 player Joakim Nyström from Sweden, who u. a. Jürgen Melzer trained.
