Today's Carl Spaeter AG was founded in 1901 in the legal form of a GmbH as a Basel branch of Carl Spaeter GmbH from Mannheim , which came from the industrial family of the same name. In 1904 it became an independent and independent company, but still maintains close contact with the sister group Carl Spaeter GmbH in Duisburg .

In 1913, the Basel Carl Spaeter GmbH was converted into a stock corporation. The core activity was the wholesale trade in rolling mill products . Over the course of the decades, the current group of companies grew from this through the incorporation of trading and production companies, which is divided into the three product ranges steel & metal , construction and building services .

On May 1, 2018, the companies SPAETER AG Sins, SPAETER Nänikon AG, Carl SPAETER AG and SPAETER Chur AG were united under the roof of a single German-Swiss company. This is called Spaeter AG. The structure in Ticino (SPAETER Ticino SA) and in western Switzerland (Veuthey & Cie SA) remains unchanged.
