Carl Thönes

Carl Thönes (* 1847 ; † June 11, 1895 in Lennep , also Karl Thönes ) was a German Protestant theologian , author and editor of the Theologische Literaturzeitung .

Life

From 1865 Thönes studied theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn , where he became a member of the Bonner Wingolf . From 1867 he studied at the Georg August University in Göttingen . There he was one of the founders of the Göttingen Wingolf and a member of its predecessor organization, the Christian association Arminia . As a founding senior , he played a decisive role in founding this Christian student association . Thönes was an early student of Albrecht Ritschl , with whom he stayed in contact even after his studies. Ritschl also advised Thönes on the foundation and organization of the connection life of the Göttingen Wingolf, where Ritschl Thönes urged to take action against theological-orthodox currents.

Thönes completed his studies in 1868 and obtained his doctorate in theology. Dr. phil. At first he worked as a pastor in Wald . In 1873 he published his highly effective scientific publication Schleiermacher's Handwritten Notes on the First Part of the Doctrine of Faith . In 1881 the text Christian view of marriage and its modern opponents followed . He achieved particular importance as the author and editor of the Theological Literature Newspaper, for which he reviewed new theological, also foreign-language, foreign writings. He was involved in the Gustav Adolf Association under Gustav Adolf Fricke . Thönes died as superintendent of Lennep in 1895. His daughter was the philosopher and theologian Adelheid Thönes .
