Carl Wüstnei

Carl Wüstnei (born September 19, 1843 in Schwerin ; † December 21, 1902 there ) was a Mecklenburg railway construction officer and an ornithologist who worked primarily in Prussia .

Life

Carl Wüstnei was a son of the pedagogue and biologist of the same name Carl (Georg Gustav) Wüstnei (1810-1858). He attended the Gymnasium Fridericianum Schwerin . After the early death of the father, studying was initially out of the question. He did an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer in the main repair shop of the Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn in Schwerin. For two years he worked in the Brockelmann iron foundry and machine factory in Güstrow . In 1865 he began studying at the Royal Trade Academy in Berlin . After his exams he entered the service of the Prussian State Railways and worked as a Royal Railway Construction Officer in the construction of railway lines.

From 1895 he retired in Schwerin. He researched the Mecklenburg bird life. 1897 made an ornithological trip to Sylt . Together with Gustav Clodius , he carried out a census of the white storks in Mecklenburg. From 1859 to 1897 he kept a diary of his ornithological observations. Since 1861 he was a member of the Association of Friends of Natural History in Mecklenburg.
