Carl Wendt (theologian)

Carl Ernst Georg Christian Wendt (born August 6, 1837 in Neubrandenburg ; † December 17, 1911 there ) was a German theologian and high school teacher.

Life

Carl Wendt was the son of Neubrandenburg locksmith Office Master and citizen (Johann) Carl Wendt (* 1808) and his wife, the Stargarder baker's daughter Marie, born Schmidt (* 1813) born. He attended grammar school in Neubrandenburg, passed his A-levels at Easter 1856 and studied Protestant theology in Erlangen and Rostock from 1856 to 1859 . After a period as private tutor he was a teacher at the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz from 1863 to 1868 . At the same time he was the instructor of the Hereditary Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich (V) of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1863 to 1866 .

Wendt left grammar school in 1868 and became a pastor in Grünow . In 1879 he came to the Marienkirche in Neubrandenburg, where he initially worked as a second pastor and became its first pastor in 1890. In 1896 he was elected to the preposition of the synod . In 1908 he retired and was honored with the title of Council of Churches.

Carl Wendt was married to Friederike (Dorothea Helene), born in 1868. Raeth (1849–1909), a daughter of the Neustrelitz merchant Ludwig Raeth. The couple's sons also embarked on an academic career. Karl Wendt (1869–1942) also studied theology and became school director in Neubrandenburg, Erich Wendt (* 1871) and Viktor Wendt (* 1877) studied medicine.
