Carl Wilhelm Jaspers (born October 1, 1850 in Sanderbusch ; † February 24, 1940 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) was a German politician.

Life

Jaspers came from a family from Jeverland that can be traced back to the 16th century and was the son of the landowner Carl Wilhelm Jaspers (1817–1886) and his wife Antoinette Christine Louise nee. Drost (1823-1895). He attended the Mariengymnasium Jever from 1861 to 1870 and then studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Munich , Berlin and Leipzig from 1870 to 1873 . In 1874 he entered the Oldenburg government service and became the 1879 Amtshauptmann of Butjadingen appointed. Out of a personal urge for independence, Jaspers left the civil service and on November 1, 1881 joined the management of the expanding Oldenburgische Spar- und Leihbank. In addition to personal freedom, this position also meant an improvement financially. As a staunch liberal, conservative character, Jaspers was also politically active and was a member and temporarily chairman of the Oldenburg City Council until 1920 . From 1890 to 1894 he was a member of the Oldenburg State Parliament , but ultimately refused to run again because he did not feel able to cope with the double burden as bank director and member of parliament. In 1921 he resigned from bank management and in the following years devoted himself entirely to his inclinations, which included hunting and painting in particular.
