Carlo Antonio Marino
Carlo Antonio Marino (also Marini) (baptized September 10, 1670 in Bergamo , † September 13, 1735 in Crema ) was an Italian composer , violinist and cellist.
Life
Carlo Antonio Marino was baptized as the son of Isabella and Giuseppe Marino in the parish church of S. Salvatore. Carlo Antonio received his first training from his father, a musician known as suonatore di viola, violoncello e contrabbasso . The Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore was an important music center in northern Italy at that time. As a boy, Marino was first trained here as a choirboy. From 1686 he was the second violinist and from 1700 to 1705 after Bartolomeo Bernardi's departure until the dissolution of the string ensemble he was first violinist at the cathedral. After this time he worked at opera houses in various cities in northern Italy. On November 16, 1709, Marino became Kapellmeister at the Crema Cathedral.
Marinos Sonatas for Violin and B. c. Op. 8 of 1705 correspond to those of Op. 5 by Arcangelo Corelli , published a few years earlier, and like this contain numerous double stops and chords. The sonatas from opp. 3, 6 and 7 are notable for their obbligato cello part. Some of his collections were reprinted by Estienne Roger in Amsterdam, shortly after they were first published.
