Carlo Benigni (Bishop)

Carlo Benigni (born May 26, 1745 in Fabriano ; † April 12, 1822 ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Terni .

Life

Carlo Benigni came from the noble family of the Marchese Benigni. On November 22, 1772, he received the sacrament of ordination .

Pope Pius VI Carlo Benigni called on June 27, 1796 Bishop of Terni. He was ordained bishop on July 3 of the same year by Hyacinthe-Sigismond Cardinal Gerdil ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Nicola Buschi and Bishop Michele Di Pietro .

Da Carlo Benigni in the Napoleonic occupation of the Papal States allegiance to the French Empire refused, he was deported on the orders of the imperial police. After the end of the occupation he returned to his bishopric.
