Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia (born August 24, 1879 in Turin , † September 7, 1959 in Ripafratta, San Giuliano Terme ) was an Italian industrial designer and graphic artist . He became known as the automobile pioneer and designer of the historic Lancia logo.

Life

Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia was Conte and son of Senatore Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia , who co-founded the Fabbrica italiana d'automobili Società anonima on July 29, 1899 . In 1895 Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia initiated Italy's first automobile race Torino- Asti- Torino and two years later he founded the Automobile club di Torino , which also acted as the issuing office for driving licenses . In 1904 he completed his law degree , but first worked for a coachbuilder and later founded the development office Studio Tecnico Carlo Biscaretti , where he also designed vehicles for Itala and also wrote articles in specialist magazines. From 1932 he started his own collection of historic vehicles, which today forms the basis of the Italian state automobile museum Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile . The Lancia logo goes back to an encounter with Vincenzo Lancia , two years his junior , who came to the rescue when Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia broke down with his Benz .
