The Italian company Itala made automobiles under the brand name Itala ago. In the first decades of the 20th century it was one of the most renowned production companies, whose cars were praised for their robustness and sportiness.
It was founded in Turin in 1904 by Matteo Ceirano and from the beginning saw itself in competition with the already established brands Fiat and Isotta Fraschini .
Thanks to their solid and progressive constructions, for example with the cardan shaft borrowed from Hotchkiss and motors with cylinder slides , the heavy wagons had a good reputation with the then without exception rich customers. Almost all European rulers at that time had an Itala.
The most famous ride of an Itala was taken by a nobleman. In 1907, Prince Scipio Borghese and Ettore Guizzardi won the demanding race from Beijing to Paris in a white Itala with 45 hp , which can still be seen today in the Turin Automobile Museum.
In 1929 Itala was sold to the truck manufacturer Officine Metallurgiche di Tortona . After that, a few vehicles were produced until 1935, when the company finally closed and the remains were bought by Fiat.
