The Swiss Robert (or Roberto) Züst († 1897) had been a partner of the Güller & Croff foundry in Intra on Lake Maggiore since 1871 . Züst became the sole owner of the company in 1893, which in future operated under the name Güller & Züst . The product range was expanded to include steam engines , turbines and precision tools for metal processing . Later the manufacture of tractors followed . When Robert Züst died in 1897, his sons took over the business. In 1902 they also presented the first vehicle with a combustion engine . A year later they founded the company Ing.Roberto Züst Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili SA in Milan . However, automobile production did not begin until 1905. The first production cars from Züst were based on the Mercedes vehicles of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft at the time . They had a steel frame with four cylinders cast in pairs .

The Züst 28/45 hp had a 7.5 liter engine. An 11.3 liter engine was built into the 40/50 PS. The truck production followed in 1908. Züst was then a major order for 600 trucks from the Italian military . In the following year, another passenger car model with a 5.0-liter engine was presented. In 1913 production in Milan was stopped.

In Brescia , Züst had a subsidiary Brixia-Züst SA with its own vehicle production since 1906 and also had an import company in London, Züst Motors Ltd. which, however, could only sell ten vehicles. Much more successful in 1908 was the participation of a Züst 28/45 hp in the 20,000 kilometer race around the world from New York via Moscow and Berlin to Paris, in which Züst was able to take third place. Züst also had other races at this time.

Züst manufactured ambulances, staff vehicles and trucks for the army during the First World War . The last Züst development was the 15/25 HP with 3-liter engine built until October 1917. On October 1, 1917, Züst was taken over by OM . OM still produced 360 copies of the 15/25 PS.
