Società Automobili Michele Lanza was an Italian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Michele Lanza (1868–1947) made stearin candles . In 1895 he designed an automobile for the first time. He then founded the company on Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Turin . The brand name was Lanza . In 1903 production ended after about twelve copies were made.

vehicles

The vehicle, manufactured in 1895, was the first four-wheeled petrol car from Italy. A two-cylinder engine in the rear drove the rear wheels via chains. The vehicle with space for two people had lever steering on a vertical steering column. The transmission had three forward gears, but no reverse.

Lanza designed the next vehicle together with his colleague Giuseppe Stefanini, who later switched to Isotta Fraschini . This six-person vehicle had two forward and one reverse gears.
