De Vecchi, Strada & C. , later De Vecchi & C. and Officine Meccaniche de Vecchi SA , was an Italian manufacturer of automobiles and aircraft engines .

Company history

Giuseppe De Vecchi and Ettore Strada founded in 1903 with a capital of 300,000 lire , the company De Vecchi, Strada & C. in Via Peschiera 2 in Milan and started the production of automobiles. The technical director was the former cyclist F. Momo. In 1908 the company went bankrupt and Ettore Strada left the company. At the end of 1908, Giuseppe De Vecchi founded the new company De Vecchi & C. In 1914, production was switched to trucks and ambulances due to the war. In 1917 the name was changed again to Officine Meccaniche de Vecchi SA Now only aircraft engines were produced. Production ended in 1920. Costruzioni Meccaniche Nazionali took over the company.

The first model was the 10/12 HP with a four cylinder engine . In 1904 the 14 HP was added. After the bankruptcy, the new A 16/20 HP model came out with a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2800 cm³ . This model had a cardan drive . This was followed by the type B 20/30 HP with a four-cylinder engine with 4082 cm³ displacement and a chain drive. In 1911 new models with block engines appeared. This included the type D 16/20 HP with a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2614 cm³ (80 mm bore , 130 mm stroke ). This model was offered in two different chassis lengths. In 1911 there was also another 20/30 HP , this time with a displacement of 4398 cm³ (100 mm bore, 140 mm stroke). In 1912 the 25/35 HP model with a two-block engine was on offer. In 1913 the model C 25/35 HP was listed. It had a monoblock engine with a displacement of 5700 cm³. In 1914 there were the models Type E 20/25 HP and Type F 25/35 HP . The last model was the type H 25/30 HP , published in 1916 , whose four-cylinder engine had a displacement of 3815 cm³.

Races

The company used vehicles in various car races, for the first time in 1908 in the race from Padua to Bovolenta . The driver Gloria took third place in the 1913 Targa Florio with a 16/20 HP . In the 1914 Targa Florio he achieved second or sixth place with a 20/30 HP .
