Carlo Conti (cardinal)

Carlo Cardinal Conti (born August 28, 1556 in Rome ; † December 3, 1615 there ) was Bishop of Ancona and Numana and cardinal of the Roman Church since 1604 .

Life

Carlo Conti came from a respected noble family, his parents were Torquato Conti, Count von Poli, and Violante Farnese from the House of Farnese and Latera. He received his education in Rome at the Collegio Germanico , at the University of Perugia he studied law, where he also received his doctorate in both rights .

Carlo Conti was appointed bishop of the diocese of Ancona and Numana on July 1, 1585 with a papal dispensation because of his still too young age and received on July 21 of the same year through Giovanni Battista Cardinal Castagna , later Pope Urban VII Episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Filippo Sega , Bishop of Piacenza , and Vincenzo Casali , Bishop of Massa Marittima . The appointment as cardinal was given to him on the occasion of the consistory of June 9, 1604 by Pope Clement VIII , on June 1, 1605 he was appointed cardinal priest of San Crisogono . On August 17, 1605 he was appointed cardinal priest of San Clemente , on January 7, 1613 cardinal priest of Santa Prisca . Carlo Conti took part in both the March and May conclaves in 1605 .
