Carlo Pasquini

Carlo Pasquini (* 1956 in Montevarchi ) is an Italian director , writer and librettist .

Life

Carlo Pasquini studied directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome . In 1976 he met the composer Hans Werner Henze during the 1st Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano and became his assistant during the Cantiere's first years. In 1980 he worked as assistant director at the world premiere of Henzes - written for the children of Montepulciano - Pollicino . As an assistant director he worked with the directors Ugo Gregoretti , Sandro Sequi, Micha van Hoecke , Filippo Crivelli and for several years with Mauro Bolognini . He staged stage works by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz , Jean-Paul Sartre , Frank Wedekind , John Ford , Jean Genet , Bertolt Brecht , Pierre Carlet de Marivaux and Vladimir Nabokov as well as the opera directors Die Zauberflöte ( WA Mozart ) and Brundibár ( Hans Krása ). As a director at the Teatro Povero in Monticchiello he brought a. a. numerous prose works of the 20th century in own adaptations on the stage, including Caligolaaa! (2004) based on Albert Camus , Platon and Franz Kafka , Il favoloso Cincinnato (2005) based on the novel Invitation to the Beheading of Vladimir Nabokov, Fernet Branca (2005 for the Festival di Montalcino) based on David Foster Wallace. In 2009 he staged Bertolt Brecht's two one-act plays at Cantiere in Montepulciano, Der Jasager (with music by Kurt Weill ) and - as an Italian premiere, The Measure (with music by Hanns Eisler ). As a librettist, Carlo Pasquini wrote the libretto for the composer Detlev Glanert for his opera Die Drei Rätsel (world premiere in 2003 at the Halle Opera House ) and in 2008 the libretto Kami & Kaze for the Iranian composer Kamran Khacheh . For the 40th Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano 2015 he wrote the libretto for the opera Idroscalo Pasolini (music: Stefano Taglietti), which he directed himself at the premiere in July 2015.
