Carlos Nantes Bolsonaro (born December 7, 1982 in Resende ) is a Brazilian politician ( Republicanos ) and has been a city councilor in Rio de Janeiro since 2001 .

Life

Carlos Bolsonaro is the second eldest son of Jair Bolsonaro , 38th President of Brazil , and Rogéria Nantes Nunes Braga. His brothers are Flávio Bolsonaro , member of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro from 2003 to 2019 and currently a member of the Federal Senate , and Eduardo Bolsonaro , member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies since 2015.

Bolsonaro first studied aeronautics at the Universidade Estácio de Sá before turning to politics at the age of 17 and applying for a city council office in the Câmara Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. In 2000, Carlos was the youngest elected city representative in the history of Brazil when he received 16,053 votes in the then 5.8 million city. He was re-elected for a fifth term in 2016

He was (as of 2019) a member of the right-wing religious and conservative Partido Social Cristão (PSC), and has been a member of the Republicanos (REP) since 2020 . He represents homophobic views, calls for the death penalty and the reduction of criminal responsibility . He sees the problems of the city of Rio in the impoverishment and the violence, which he wants to fight through birth control and the strengthening of the public security organs.

In 2020, the Supremo Tribunal Federal commissioned a unit of the Policia Federal to investigate the backers of the anti-democratic protests in which Carlos Bolsonaro took part. Federal police identified Carlos Bolsonaro as the head of the gang that targeted the Supreme Court with fake news . One day after this information became known, Jair Bolsonaro fired the director general of the federal police. Thereupon his superior, Justice Minister Sérgio Moro , resigned in protest .
