    The Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro , officially Portuguese Assembleia Legislativa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ) is the supreme legislative body of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro .

    Its headquarters are in the Palácio Tiradentes in Rio de Janeiro . The parliament consists of 70 representatives elected by proportional representation, the deputados estaduais , who are elected for four years, most recently in the parliamentary elections as part of the elections in Brazil in 2018 .

    history

    In 1834 the Município Neutro , the neutral city , was founded in the area of ​​Rio de Janeiro and the province of Rio de Janeiro of the Empire of Brazil received its own provincial parliament, the Assembleia Legislativa Provincial , which began business on February 1, 1835.

    When the republic was founded in 1889, the province became the state of Rio de Janeiro, the legislative assembly was relocated to Niterói from 1960 to 1975 when the state of Guanabara was founded , and when the two states were merged again it was relocated to Rio de Janeiro with a new count of the legislative periods.
