    The Partido Liberal ( PL , German  Liberal Party ), previously Partido da República ( PR , German  Party of the Republic ) from 2006 to 2019 , is a conservative party in Brazil . On May 7, 2019, the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) approved the renewed name change.

    history

    The party, which is located on the right side of the political spectrum in Brazil, was founded on October 26, 2006 as an association of the liberal, but evangelically influenced Partido Liberal with the right-wing Partido da Reedificação da Ordem Nacional (PRONA) and was founded on December 19 Registered in the list of eligible parties in 2006 at the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (Supreme Electoral Court). During the merger, the manifesto Manifesto do Partido da República - PR was published. The number of registered members was 771,671 (as of June 2020). It's number 22 on ballot papers.

    It ranks seventh in the ranking of the most corrupt parties in Brazil.

    The party has been represented in the National Congress since the 53rd legislative period . In the general election in 2010 , she won four of the 81 Senate seats: Alfredo Nascimento for Amazonas , César Borges for Bahia , Magno Malta for Espírito Santo and João Ribeiro for Tocantins . In the 2014 elections for the 55th legislative term, Cidinho Santos and Wellington Fagundes were re- elected senators for Mato Grosso, Magno Malta and Vicentinho Alves for Tocantins.

    Alfredo Nascimento held the party chairmanship until April 17, 2016. Although the PR was against the impeachment proceedings against Dilma Rousseff , 26 MPs had voted for the impeachment. After the parliamentary elections in 2014 , the party had 44 MPs, but five of them are not in office. It is the seventh strongest party in the House of Representatives .

    In the local elections in Brazil in 2016 , the PR candidates prevailed in 296 municipalities and appointed the city prefect (mayor) there.

    Two MPs do not exercise their office because they have been appointed state secretaries, two others are excused due to illness.
