The first legislative period in the province of Rio Grande do Sul opened on April 20, 1835 with 28 elected representatives.

The province was established from November 15, 1889, the state of Rio Grande do Sul of the newly proclaimed Republic of Brazil and an Assembleia dos Representantes .
