Werner Funck
Werner Funck (born February 4, 1881 in Königsberg , † October 6, 1951 in Potsdam ) was a German actor, singer, film director and producer.
Life
Werner Funck graduated from the Kneiphöfische Gymnasium in Königsberg and began studying medicine at the Albertus University in Königsberg , which he soon gave up. Instead, he turned to acting. On October 27, 1901, he made his debut as Antonio in the Merchant of Venice and on May 1, 1903 received a contract as an actor at the Royal Theater in Berlin . He also played in Potsdam, Elberfeld and Königsberg.
In 1912 he completed a vocal training with Max Alfieri (pseudonym of Moritz Adler (1858–1927)) and received an engagement at the Royal Opera House in Berlin. A successful singing career followed in numerous roles (see opera repertoire). The most impressive thing for him was probably the joint appearance with Enrico Caruso on October 24, 1913 on the occasion of a guest performance by the Italian in Berlin.
In 1919 Funck discovered silent films for himself and that year played in ten strips. He also directed some silent films up to 1925 . With the advent of the talkie in the late 1920s, he turned back to acting. At the end of the 1930s he was seen again in a few film roles. During this time he also produced numerous documentaries about German landscapes and cities with his own company.
In 1926 Werner Funck married Eleanor Hübner. The couple moved to Golm near Potsdam around 1930 , and with the support of her husband, the young Ms. Funck began breeding Great Danes on a large property on the street In der Heide . The kennel was called Funcken von der Heide . Due to the lack of role offers during the Second World War , Werner Funck devoted himself more intensively to dog breeding, which his wife continued until 1975 after his death in 1951. Eleanor Funck died in 1989.
Saskia Ludwig , née Funck, member of the federal and state parliament , is Werner Funck's granddaughter.
