Carlos Díaz , full name Carlos Richard Díaz , (born February 4, 1979 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.68 meter tall midfielder Díaz played from Apertura 1997 to Clausura 2007 for Defensor Sporting in the Primera División . It has recorded 24 season games (one hit) in Apertura and Clausura 2003, as well as an appearance in Apertura 2005 and 14 completed top division games in the 2006/07 season (no goals). There are also sources according to which he can boast 209 games and four goals for Defensor in the entire period from 1997 to 2007. However, this source shows contradictions in terms of content to the other sources. In 2007 he also played a game for Atlético Bucaramanga . In the 2007/08 season he joined Defensors league rivals Peñarol , for whom he played seven first division games in the Clausura 2008. He missed the championship title, which his former long-term employer Defensor won that season. From the Apertura 2008 to mid-December 2010 he was back in the Defensors ranks and was 39 times (two goals) in the league in 2008/09 and 2009/10 and six times in the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 , once in the Copa Sudamericana and four times in the Copa Libertadores used. He then moved to the Rampla Juniors , for whom he played eleven first division games (no goal) in the 2011 Clausura. From July 2011 to February 2012 he was active for Tacuarembó FC . The usage statistics show ten games (no goal) for his time with the Northern Uruguayans. He joined Racing in February 2012 . In the Clausura 2012 and the 2012/13 season he was used a total of 36 times in the Primera División and scored one goal. In the 2013/14 season he ran in 29 other league games (no goal). In the 2014/15 season he was used ten times (no goal) in the top Uruguayan league. At the end of July 2015, he moved to the second division side Boston River . In the second division season 2015/16 he was used four times (no goal).

National team

Díaz was part of the Uruguayan U-20 selection , which finished fourth in the 1997 U-20 South American Championship in Chile . During the tournament he was used by coach Víctor Púa five times (one goal). In the same year he also competed with the team at the Junior World Championship in 1997 and was runner-up behind Argentina in Shah Alam . He contributed to this with six World Cup appearances. He took part in the U-20 South American Championship in Argentina in 1999 . His tournament record there shows nine appearances and one goal. Uruguay finished the tournament as vice South American champion. At the Junior World Cup in Nigeria in 1999 , he was again part of the Uruguayan squad. He ran three times during the tournament, finally failed with the Celeste in the semifinals to Japan and came fourth. On December 17, 1997 Díaz had also made his debut in the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup in the senior team . He was a member of the 2001 Copa America squad. Until his last appearance on July 29, 2001, he completed a total of six international matches. He didn't score a goal.
