Carlos Gruezo , with full name Carlos Armando Gruezo Quiñónez (born September 18, 1975 in Rosa Zárate , Esmeraldas province ), is a former Ecuadorian football player and current coach . He is the father of Carlos Gruezo jr.

Career

Gruezo played for Barcelona SC Guayaquil , Club Sociedad Deportiva Aucas , CD Espoli , Unión Deportiva Juvenil , CD El Nacional , Deportivo Cuenca , Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Portoviejo and Deportivo Quito during his career . With Deportivo Cuenca he became Ecuadorian champion in 2004 .

National team

With the U-20 selection of Ecuador he reached fourth place at the U-20 South American Championship in 1995 . At the football tournament of the Pan American Games in 1995 , he was eliminated from the preliminary round with the Ecuadorian U-23 national team. Gruezo was in the qualification for the Olympic Summer Games 1996 for the Ecuadorian Olympic selection in action. On October 14, 1998, he played for the senior team of Ecuador against Brazil .

Trainer

After the end of his active career, Gruezo worked as a football coach. First he became assistant coach at his former club Barcelona SC Guayaquil in 2010 , where he worked under various head coaches until 2013. He has been part of Luis Zubeldía's team since 2014 .
