Carlos Iturralde Rivero (born June 7, 1926 in Mérida , Yucatán , † August 1, 2004 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican football player on the position of a striker . He is considered the best football player in the history of the Yucatán Peninsula .

Life

childhood

After his father, a former governor of the state of Yucatán, left his homeland and lived temporarily in Europe, the young Carlos came to the "old world" for the first time with football - which is in the shadow of baseball on the Yucatán peninsula and by no means is as popular as in central Mexico - in touch.

Player career

When the family returned to Mexico , they settled in the capital, where Carlos began his footballing career and was awarded a professional contract for the 1945/46 season with Club Asturias , which two years earlier had led the professional football championship of Mexico , which was held for the first time that season of the Austrian coach Ernst Pauler had won.

Iturralde also had an affinity for writing. He published a book called Amistad entre patadas and wrote a weekly column for a regional newspaper for an extended period of time .
