Carlos Mijares Bracho

Carlos G. Mijares Bracho (born April 26, 1930 in Mexico City ; † March 19, 2015 there ) was a Mexican architect and founder of the "grupo Menhir".

biography

Mijares studied architecture at the Escuela Nacional de Arquitectura of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) from 1948 to 1952 and was professor of architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) from 1954 . He is considered a master of artisanal brick masonry. His constructions include religious, industrial, and residential architecture. The influence of the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto is in part unmistakable. Later he worked as a university teacher at the national architecture school of the UNAM, where he shaped the architecture of the 20th century in a comparable way alongside Jaime Ortiz Monasterio .

Mijares is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA).
