biography

After graduating from high school in Weinheim in 1983, Carolin Scharpff-Striebich studied business administration in Germany, America and France. In 1988 she graduated with a degree in business administration and a Master of Business Administration. Afterwards she worked for the pharmaceutical industry and taught marketing at the University of Cooperative Education in Karlsruhe . In January 2004 she took over the management of the contemporary art collection from her parents Ute and Rudolf Scharpff. Since the death of Rudolf Scharpff in 2019, she has been the chairwoman of the Rudolf and Uta Scharpff Foundation for Contemporary Art .

Started in the 1960s, the collection today includes groups of works by internationally renowned artists from Germany ( Albert Oehlen , André Butzer , Neo Rauch and others), the USA ( Christopher Wool , Julian Schnabel and others) and England ( Bridget Riley , Glenn Brown , Rebecca Warren ).

On the initiative of Carolin Scharpff-Striebich, the so-called “open depot” was created in 2008, in which the works of the collection are summarized and made available to public museums in Germany on the basis of cooperation agreements. On this basis, five German museums - Hamburger Kunsthalle , Kunstmuseum Stuttgart , Kunstmuseum Bonn , Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and Kunsthalle Mannheim - are currently able to work with the holdings of the collection according to their own ideas and wishes on the basis of a cooperation agreement.

Carolin Scharpff-Striebich is constantly expanding her own collection, which is based on her parents' collection. In her collecting activities she focuses primarily on artists who work in Germany, Europe and America.
