Caroline Colombo (born April 16, 1996 in Pontarlier ) is a French biathlete who has competed regularly in the World Cup since 2019 .

Athletic career

Colombo grew up in the Jura Mountains and began biathlon at AS Mouthe in her youth . In 2015, she was accepted into the youth squad of the French Ski Association and in the following winter received her first appearances in the IBU Junior Cup and the Junior World Championships , where she achieved an eleventh place in the sprint as the best result. In December 2016 she won a Junior Cup race and in the further course of the season - each in her age group - she took fourth place in the European Championship pursuit and fifth place with the World Cup relay , alongside her Myrtille Bègue and Julia Simon belonged to. Colombo shot their team's only two penalties.

In preparation for her first season in the adult segment, which she played in the B-squad, Colombo fell while training on roller skis in June 2017 and suffered an ankle fracture . After the resulting injury break of several months, she regularly competed in races in the IBU Cup , the second highest competition series in the adult sector, at the beginning of winter 2018/19 . She won her first race there in December 2018 with the 15-kilometer individual in Obertilliach, where she was 0.6 seconds ahead of Nadine Horchler . Later that winter she won two more IBU Cup competitions in Martell (including the first mass start 60) and won nine World Cup appearances, in which she achieved a 22nd place in the pursuit of Antholz as the best result. After the season, Colombo particularly emphasized the improvement in shooting through training with Jean-Pierre Amat and Franck Badiou : Before their injury break, their hit rate was 68 percent, then 90 percent.

In winter 2019/20 Colombo received one of the remaining two French starting places in the World Cup team alongside Chloé Chevalier, alongside the four A-squad athletes Anaïs Bescond , Célia Aymonier , Julia Simon and Justine Braisaz . As the best World Cup result, she finished 15th in the Hochfilzen sprint in one of the first races of the season. As a result, she lagged behind her established teammates with her performance and was only nominated as a substitute runner (without commitment) for the World Championships . She took part in the European Championships in Minsk-Raubitschy , where she was fourth in the pursuit and missed the desired EM medal by one place. In particular, with the course of the other competitions (15th place in the super sprint, 12th place in the sprint, 8th place in the single mixed relay with Émilien Claude ), she was unsatisfied. Colombo finished the season with a second and a third place in the IBU Cup.
