Caroline Valentin

Elisabeth Caroline Valentin b. Pichler (born May 17, 1855 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 26, 1923 there ) was a German musicologist.

Life

Caroline Pichler, also Karoline , was the daughter of the Frankfurt architect Oskar Pichler . She studied music at the Hoch Conservatory and married the classical philologist and pedagogue Veit Valentin . Their son is the historian Veit Valentin , their daughter Klara Valentin became a high school teacher in Frankfurt.

Her main work is the history of music in Frankfurt am Main , published in 1906 on behalf of the Society for History and Antiquity . In addition, she wrote essays and articles for the Frankfurter Zeitung as well as for various specialist journals, including above all the monthly magazines for music history published by the Society for Music Research . She wrote several biographies for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie and participated in the planning for a Frankfurt biography to be drawn up on behalf of the Frankfurt Historical Commission .

She was a member of the Frankfurter Bildungsverein, a forerunner of the Volkshochschule Frankfurt am Main , and of the General German Women's Association and, until 1883, of the Association for Volkskindergartens.

Her grave is in the Frankfurt main cemetery . The Institute for Urban History manages your estate .
