The approximately 197 km long Río Carrión is a river in the province of Palencia in northern Spain ; it is the largest tributary of the Río Pisuerga .

The Río Carrión rises at about 2220  m altitude in the area of ​​the Fuentes Carrionas on the south side of the Cantabrian Mountains ; the headwaters lies on the northern border of the province of Palencia in the autonomous region of Castile and León . The Rio Carrión flows mainly in a southerly direction and flows north of the small town of Dueñas into the Río Pisuerga .
