Carrick Rangers Football Club is a Northern Irish football club based in Carrickfergus .
history
In 1939 a group of young men discussed the formation of a new football club for the city of Carrickfergus . After it was agreed that there was enough interest in the club, the name was debated. In the back of the room where they met hung a picture of Glasgow Rangers . The founding members immediately agreed to the proposal that the club should be called Carrick Rangers.
Entry into the minor league was approved. In 1942 they won two titles and after the Second World War the step into the amateur league was made.
Arrived in the 2nd division , the first league title was won in 1962. In 1976 the Irish Cup was won . In the final, Linfield FC was sensationally defeated 2-1. This ensured the team's only participation in the European Cup to date. In 1984 they lost the cup final 4-1 to Ballymena United and in 1995 3-1 to Linfield FC.
In 1983 they were promoted to the first division . The club was there until 1995. Based on the results of the last two seasons (1993 and 1994), the league was divided into two groups. The first 1st division was reduced from 16 to eight teams. The other eight clubs had to go to the second division , including Carrick Rangers FC.
In 2011 the rise was successful again. As the bottom of the table, they were immediately relegated.
