history

In Carsluith there is evidence of early settlement with the Doon of Carsluith . The Promontory Fort probably had several protective walls.

It was the Cairns family , descended from the lower landed gentry , who built the Tower House Carsluith Castle towards the end of the 15th century. The defense tower, which has been state-owned since 1913, is only preserved today as a ruin. Barholm Castle to the southeast was also built in the 15th century .

In 1532 the Hannay family , coming from Sorbie , moved to their Kirkdale estate . Owner of the southeast, of Carsluith mansion Kirkdale House was the merchant, chemist and politician Samuel Hannay, 3rd Baronet .

As part of the 1961 census survey, Carsluith had 71 inhabitants.

traffic

The nationally important trunk road A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ) forms the main road of the village and connects it to the trunk road network.
