Carsten Klee (born September 15, 1970 in Jena ) is a former German soccer player. He played first division football for FC Carl Zeiss Jena and FC Hansa Rostock . For the GDR Football Association , he played 12 youth international matches.
Athletic career
Klee grew up in the youth department of the Thuringian soccer center FC Carl Zeiss Jena. As a teenager he was a national player in the U-16 team of the GDR Football Association and was able to work his way up to the U-18 national team. From 1987 to 1989 he played for FC Carl Zeiss in the junior league . Klee made his first appearance in the men's field with the 2nd team of Jena during the 1987/88 season with a point game in the second-rate GDR league . In early 1989 he was handed over to the GDR league club Wismut Gera , where he played 17 second division games by September 1989 and scored five goals in his ten games in the first half of the 1989/90 season.
This prompted FC Carl Zeiss Jena to bring back the 1.80 meter tall clover, which made its debut in the GDR league on October 13, 1989. In the game of the 7th match day BFC Dynamo - FC Carl Zeiss (2-0) he was used as a right striker for 70 minutes. This position later determined his football career. By the end of the 1989/90 season, he brought it to 19 league games in which he scored six goals. In 1989 Klee was appointed to the GDR Olympic team, with which he played several test matches. Even before the start of the qualifying games for the 1992 Olympics, the team was withdrawn in the course of German reunification . In 1990/91 he played all 26 point games for FC Carl Zeiss and was Jena top scorer with nine goals.
For the 1991/92 season, FC Carl Zeiss Jena had qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga . Under the new professional conditions and the new coach Klaus Schlappner , Klee lost his status as a regular player. In the 32 point games he was only used 17 times, was only ten times in the starting line-up and only played three games over the full length of the game. Nothing changed in this situation in the two following seasons. Until he was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga in 1994, Klee only played 58 times in 116 point games, only 13 times for 90 minutes, and he only scored eight goals. In the 1994/95 season Klee retired to the then third-class regional league and played for FC Sachsen Leipzig .
In 1995/96 Klee played his only season in the 1st Bundesliga with Hansa Rostock . He was also only a substitute for the Hanseatic League, only playing 15 times, mostly briefly, in the 34 league games. For the 1996/97 season he moved to FSV Zwickau , back to the 2nd Bundesliga. He stayed two seasons until Zwickau was relegated in the spring of 1998. In a total of 68 point games, Klee was used in 55 games, most of which he played through in full. He scored 13 championship goals, in 1998 he was the Zwickau's most successful shooter with nine goals. Two more seasons followed in the 2nd Bundesliga with SpVgg Greuther Fürth between 1998 and 2000 . In 1998/99 he was in the starting line-up 26 times in 32 appearances and was the second top scorer with eight goals. In his second year in Fürth, Klee only played 25 championship games, played 20 times from the start and scored four goals.
For the 2000/01 season, FC Sachsen Leipzig brought him back to the Regionalliga, where he played 30 of the 36 point games and was once again the most successful attacker with his eight goals. For the 2001/02 season, Klee joined the promoted team in the 2nd Bundesliga SSV Reutlingen . But he played as a substitute between the 1st and 10th game day only six games. After Klee did not make any further use for Reutlingen in 2002/03, he moved back to FC Carl Zeiss Jena in January 2003, which now only played in the fourth-class Oberliga Nordost . As a 33-year-old he was able to play his skills there again, played 17 point games by the end of the season and was still dangerous with his nine goals. In 2003/04 he was used in 26 championship games at FC Carl Zeiss, with eight goals he was the second best shooter. After another season in the major league for FC Erfurt-Nord with 30 appearances and four goals (2004/05), Klee ended his career as a competitive footballer . As a hobby player, he was still active for the national division 1. FC Zeitz (2005–2007) and SV Grimma (2008/09).
Professional career
After Klee had already trained as a physiotherapist during his active career, he started working in a Herzogenaurach rehabilitation clinic in 2007. Klee has been working as a physiotherapist at SpVgg Greuther Fürth since July 2012 .
