Carsten Klomp

Carsten Klomp (* 1965 in Hagen ) is a German church musician , composer and university professor .

Life

Klomp studied school music, church music, instrumental pedagogy, piano and the main artistic subject organ at the Detmold University of Music , as well as German studies at Bielefeld University . From 1986 to 1992 he was a church musician at the collegiate church in Herdecke . In 1992 he moved to the Christ Church in Bremerhaven . Here, in addition to the existing Bremerhaven city choir , he founded the Bremerhaven Chamber Choir and the Bremerhaven Chamber Orchestra . In 1995 he was appointed regional choirmaster (regional church music director) at the Ludwigskirche in Freiburg . Here he founded the Freiburger Kantorei and the Herdermer Vocal Ensemble , both of which he directed until 2012. He also initiated the ecumenical organ concert series Mit Bach by the Regio and, with the Foundation for Music at the Ludwigskirche, Germany's first church music community foundation . In his capacity as regional choirmaster, he founded the “House of Church Music” in Castle Beuggen in southern Baden in 2005 , which he also heads in his new position as professor at the Heidelberg University of Church Music.

In 1997 he received a teaching position at the University of Music Freiburg , and in 1998 another at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg . In 2000 he was appointed professor at the Freiburg University of Music , where he led an improvisation class until 2012. Since the winter semester 2012/2013 he has been an organ professor at the University of Church Music in Heidelberg.

Klomp composes sacred works that appear many times in Bärenreiter-Verlag and Strube-Verlag , and has been one of the editors of the specialist journal Forum Kirchenmusik since 2000 . In Bärenreiter-Verlag he publishes the Europe-wide received sheet music "organ + one", which has meanwhile been completed with nine volumes, as well as the magazine series "organ + brass" together with Heiko Petersen. In 2018 Bärenreiter-Verlag published the two-volume "Ecumenical Organ Book", which Klomp edited together with Markus Karas and which, with over 550 pages, is one of the largest collections of newly composed chorale preludes in Germany after the Second World War.

Also in 2018 the first volume of his organ school "Orgelspiel von Anfang an" was published by Butz-Verlag (Bonn), which is already in its second edition after only one year. The second volume will be published in 2020, a third volume is planned for 2021.

In 2008 he recorded the CD Feuerwerk for an organ with choral works from three centuries, including mostly his own works, on the Stumm / Goll organ of the Stadtkirche Karlsruhe- Durlach , which was released on Oliver Wölbern's label. He also recorded a CD with Bach's Art of Fugue with the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and various other CDs with his duo partner, the trumpeter Rudolf Mahni.

He is married to Pastor Wibke Klomp and has two children.
