Carsten Meyer-Tönnesmann

Carsten Meyer-Tönnesmann (* 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German art historian and author.

Live and act

Meyer-Tönnesmann studied art history , classical archeology and historical musicology. He wrote his doctoral thesis in 1984 under the title " The Hamburg Artist Club of 1897 ". He was a research assistant at the Hamburger Kunsthalle , the Altona Museum and the Hamburg cultural authority. His focus is on the history of art in northern Germany, on which he has written numerous articles, including for the Allgemeine Künstlerlexikon (AKL) and Der neue Rump. Lexicon of visual artists from Hamburg, Altona and the surrounding area .

Meyer-Tönnesmann has been organizing art exhibitions for the Hamburger Sparkasse gallery since 2002 and is a freelancer for the Ernst Barlach Foundation in Güstrow . In 2015 he was the curator for the exhibition about the Hamburg painter Thomas Herbst in the Jenisch Haus . On the occasion of this exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the artist's death, he compiled a catalog of works in autumn .
