Carthage is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Panola County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located near the center of the county, in east Texas, is about 30 km from Louisiana and has a total area of ​​27.3 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.

history

The name Panola is the Indian word for cotton. The city was named after the place of origin of Judge John Allison , a cotton buyer from Panola County , Mississippi , who played a leading role in the formation of the new county. In the period that followed, cotton production became the county's largest economic factor.
