Caspar Habermann

Caspar Habermann (* 1635 in Wopfer near Jever; † June 7, 1676 in Rostock ) was a professor of law at the University of Rostock .

education and study

Caspar Habermann was born in 1635 as the son of a school teacher in Wopfer near Jever in East Frisia. He received his secondary education at the grammar school in Bremen . This was followed by a law degree, which Habermann completed from 1652 to 1655 in Prague and from 1655 to 1657 in Leipzig. In Leipzig he received his doctorate in 1657 as a master of liberal arts. This was followed by a second course of study, which he obtained in Rostock in 1665 with a doctorate to become a Dr. jur. finished. In the same year Habermann married Maria Brandes, the daughter of the Rostock senator and chamberlain David Brandes. The resulting son Wilhelm David Habermann (1669-1715) was from 1706 to 1715 Professor of Medicine at the University of Rostock.

academic career

At the end of 1671 Caspar Habermann was appointed full professor of rights and institutions by Duke Christian Ludwig I , thus succeeding Heinrich Rudolf Redeker (1625–1680). At the same time he held the office of consistorial assessor in the ducal consistory. Habermann's academic career did not last long. He died in 1676 at the age of 41.
