Ladislaus Károlyi
Ladislaus Graf Károlyi (born February 26, 1824 - † June 23, 1852 in Trieste , Austrian Empire ) was a Hungarian kk naval officer.
Life
Ladislaus Károlyi comes from an old Hungarian aristocratic family, he was a great-grandson of the famous Feldzeugmeister Anton Graf Antal Károlyi . In 1841 he joined the Imperial and Royal Navy as a cadet and completed his scientific training for sea service.
Remaining in the navy, he advanced to the captain in various regiments. To better prepare for the sea service, he applied to the English Navy . He served as an officer on the ships "Karisford" and "Colingwood". With this he made a circumnavigation of the world and did not return until the revolutionary year 1848 . Soon afterwards he was given command of the frigate "Bellona". With this ship he took part in the siege of Venice (→ Repubblica di San Marco ) and the bombardment of Ancona.
After the fall of Venice he took command of the corvette "Karolina" which he led to England, Denmark and Russia. In 1851 he equipped the " SMS Novara " and undertook a trip to the Mediterranean accompanied by Archduke Max Ferdinand . In 1851, shortly before his untimely death, he took part in exercises in the Adriatic as commander of the "Novara".
