Casper Friedrich von Gähler

Casper Friedrich von Gähler (born February 1, 1736 in Copenhagen , † October 21, 1797 in Randers ), was a Danish major general .

Life

Casper Friedrich was a member of a family of the Duchy of Schleswig , which already was several generations in Danish services and with his grandfather, the Danish War Commissioner of Casper Gähler (1680-1759), in 1749 ennobled was. His parents were the Danish privy councilor , knight of the Dannebrog Order and high president of Altona Sigismund Wilhelm von Gähler (1706–1788) and Jeanne Antoinette de la Mare († 1780).

career

Gähler became a cavalry captain in 1762 and was with a hussar regiment until 1767 and then switched to the dragoons . He was adjutant general and in 1769 was one of the officers selected by Catherine II of Russia to help reform the army . He then took part in the Turkish War, where he was honored with the Order of Saint George for bravery .

In 1773 he returned to Denmark and was promoted to colonel of the hussars and in 1780 to colonel of the cavalry . On February 22, 1788 he became chief of the Baudissin cavalry regiment . Finally he rose to major general in 1789 and was knight of the Dannebrogden .

family

In 1782, Gählen married Elisabeth Lucie Christiane von Oertzen from the Kaltenhof family (1758–1843). The marriage resulted in a son, the Danish major Friedrich Wilhelm Sigismund (* 1786).
