Cassius was a French French house duo. It consisted of Zdar (Philippe Cerboneschi; † 2019) and Boom Bass (Hubert Blanc-Francard) and was founded in 1990.

Career

Zdar and Boom Bass began working together in 1988 while producing French hip hop singer MC Solaar . In early 1990, they first founded the La Funk Mob project. In the same year, together with Étienne de Crécy, they developed the Motorbass project, with which the two turned to electronic music.

In 1996 they created their first single, Foxxy , which was released abroad under the final band name Cassius . The track was very successful, and there were even remix versions of Daft Punk and Air , with which Cassius - along with other acts such as Stardust and Modjo - shaped the French disco sound that was becoming popular at the time. In 1999 the first mainstream single Cassius was decoupled from the album of the same name, which was released on the Virgin sub-label Astralwerk. The single landed at number seven on the British charts . In the German single charts , the single Feeling for You only came in at number 76 despite a good reception in discos .

In 2002 the very successful album Au Rêve was released, which included the single I'm a Woman in collaboration with Jocelyn Brown . The Sound of Violence , recorded with Steve Edwards , even reached number 1 on the US dance charts . Zdar and Boom Bass also worked with Wu Tang clan member Ghostface Killah and Leroy Burgess . After the single Toop Toop was released in the late summer of 2006 , the third album 15 Again followed in the fall of the same year , on which the American R&B singer / producer Pharrell Williams made a guest appearance in the song Eyewater .

In September 2007, Zdar released the single Make My Day (Haunting) together with Eyerer and Chopstick , which received a great response in the clubs.

A few days before the release of the Cassius album Dreems , Zdar had a fatal accident in June 2019 at the age of 52.
