The Castoro 10 is a work ship of the largest Italian offshore service provider Saipem , a former subsidiary of the energy group Eni. Built in 1976 in the Dutch shipyard Nederlandse Scheepsbouw , it now sails under the flag of the Bahamas and is used as a sea-going pipeline ship.

Technology and equipment

The pipelayer was deliberately designed with a very flat hull in order to enable working in shallow and coastal waters.

Trench making

The Castoro 10 has equipment for flushing a trench into which the pipeline will be laid. With the "Diverless Jet Sled 1" trenches with a depth of 6 m can be created in a water depth of up to 300 m.

Pipe laying

The ship is equipped for laying pipelines up to a diameter of 60 inches using the S-Lay method; Only “single joints” are processed, i.e. pipeline segments with a length of 40  feet . The two "tensioners" enable a pulling force of 60 t each. The pipelines are processed via two stations for chamfering the pipeline ends with 44 kW each, a welding station and two stations for radiographic testing . Finally, the pipeline goes through the stations for surface coating.

Projects

With the Castoro Sei and the Solitaire , she worked on the Nord Stream project to lay a gas pipeline through the Baltic Sea . The Castoro 10 took over the shallow water section in the German Baltic Sea.
