Catherine Crook de Camp

Catherine Crook de Camp (born November 6, 1907 in New York City , † April 9, 2000 in Plano , Texas ; born Catherine Adelaide Crook ) was an American writer .

Life

Catherine Crook de Camp grew up in New York and attended the Lennox School . She graduated Magna cum laude from Barnard College. She taught English and economics at Columbia University.

On August 12, 1939, she married the writer Lyon Sprague de Camp . This marriage resulted in two sons, Lyman Sprague de Camp and Gerard Beekman de Camp. She subsequently became her husband's manager and accountant. From the mid- 1960s she was co-author of numerous publications by her husband. The de Camps were friends with numerous science fiction writers, including John Brunner , John W. Campbell Jr. , Isaac Asimov , Arthur C. Clarke , Fletcher Pratt , Robert A. Heinlein , Poul Anderson, and Jack Williamson .

From 1972 she also published her own works and compilations. Catherine Crook de Camp, who traveled the world with her husband for many years, received numerous awards for her work in the genre of science fiction and fantasy.

Catherine Crook de Camp died in Plano, Texas, aged 92. Her ashes were interred with her husband's in Arlington National Cemetery .
