Catherine Sikora

Catherine Sikora (* around 1980 in West Cork ) is an Irish jazz musician ( tenor , soprano and alto saxophone ).

Live and act

Sikora started her career as an autodidact . She then studied jazz interpretation in England before moving to New York City in 2000 to work in the avant-garde and modern creative jazz scene there (after a deliberate break in which she further developed her artistic approach) . She played in the duo Clockwork Mercury (with Eric Mingus ), in the formation Eris 136199 (with Han-Earl Park and Nick Didkovsky ), in a duo with Ziv Ravitz and as a soloist. She was involved in the recording of Whitney Moulton and François Grillot .

Sikora toured Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. In autumn 2014 she was Artist in Residence at the Center Culturel Irlandais in Paris, where she was working on a project inspired by the stories of her female ancestors. She was also the soloist in Eric Mingus' radical reinterpretation of the opera Tommy at the 2015 Adelaide Festival . The album Untitled: After (2018), presented with drummer Brian Chase , builds on the epic poem Beowulf . She also played with Elliott Sharp , Joe Giardullo , Karl Berger , Matt Lavelle , Ras Moshe , Art Bailey , Jeremy Bacon and Stanley J. Zappa .
